To utilise all of the enormous benefits of sea moss, it can be added to beverages, meals or consumed on its own. But, what exactly is sea moss? Where can you find it? How does it taste?

We've decided to offer up some answers because these may just be your barrier to getting that elevated feeling!

WHAT IS SEA MOSS?

Sea moss is a type of algae that grows off the Atlantic coasts between North America and Europe. It is also referred to as Irish sea moss or purple sea moss.

Typically, the edible sea plant displays various colours, from violet and yellow to green and red.

These three colours can appear in a variety of tones depending on the environment, the drying procedure, the growth environment, and the specific location of sea moss.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOLD SEA MOSS AND PURPLE SEA MOSS?

GOLD SEA MOSS

Phytonutrients, a necessary component of sea moss, are responsible for the yellowish hue. It appears stringier and thinner and is easily accessible because it grows all year.

It is frequently cheaper and has a gentler flavour and fragrance than darker shades.

PURPLE SEA MOSS

The antioxidants give purple sea moss, also known as Jamaican purple sea moss, its rich colour. Because they grow best on rocks in tide pools, along the coast, and only in the summer, these kinds are more difficult to grow and are therefore rare.

Sea moss with deep hues, such as purple and green, are carefully harvested and dried to preserve their vivid hues. There isn't much soaking, washing, or drying in the shade.

GREEN SEA MOSS

Increased chlorophyll and anthocyanin-containing flavonoids give green sea moss its colour. It has a stronger taste and oceanic smell than other colours and grows profusely near the Caribbean shore.

It may have a stronger odour because it receives only minimal rinse and thorough drying to preserve the bright colour.

WHAT DOES SEA MOSS GEL TASTE LIKE?

In its basic form, sea moss gel has virtually no flavour, which makes is so easy to fit into any diet. However, you can purchase flavourful sea moss gel in Australia here

Sea moss, when consumed fresh before the washing, drying and rehydrating process, tastes earthy and is comparable in flavour to other salty sea born ingredients like oysters, seaweed, and clams. However, once it’s gone through the cleansing process and made into a consumable gel it has very little flavour.

Sea moss can have a crunchy or soft texture, depending on how it is processed. Our Sea Moss Gel is smooth and therefore is super easy to consume when added to juices, shakes, or included in various dishes such as stews and curries. Sea moss can also be used as a thickening agent in soups due to its mucilaginous nature

Possibly the most common way to consume sea moss is in a gel form. Unprocessed seaweed is used to make sea moss gel, keeping the calorie count low and maintaining the nutritional content.

A super simple way to get the benefits of Sea Moss without any cooking or smoothy making, is taking Sea Moss Capsules.
